Hebrews 12: 10,11 – Trained by Discipline (May 8)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Sunday. May 8th. The 1st day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today is Hebrews 12:10, 11.

Hebrews 12:10
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Sticking with the same theme as yesterday and just a few verses down as well, we see here that YHWH really does discipline us for our own good. He corrects us in the hopes that we get our act together. So that we will put our childish self to the side and focus on His righteous.

I really like the last sentence of our reference today. It says “it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” First, please take note of what discipline produces. Our verse says “a harvest of righteousness and peace.” Who doesn’t want those in their life? Right?

Yet, it’s the next part that makes all the difference in the world. It says “for those who have been trained by it.” Are you allowing His discipline to train you or are you making it harden your heart. The more you dig your feet into the sand the harder the discipline that will come your way.

Your discipline, or eventual judgement, is based on your ability to Repent. Teshuva. Turning away from. So, are you allowing yourself to be trained by YHWH’s discipline?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
