Temptation – Matthew 6:13

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Matthew 6:13
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

First, let it be known that He may at times lead us into temptation. Now I know what your thinking “Steve, YHWH doesn’t tempt us to do evil.” I agree 100%. He doesn’t. Yet, He may at times allow us to be tempted. So, He won’t be the one tempting us, but He will allow us to be tempted.

However, I believe this is to be a reminder to ourselves not to put ourselves in those circumstances. How can we pray for something and then turn around only to willfully walk right into what we prayed to avoid? It would be complete hypocrisy.

But the question is “Do you really want to avoid temptation?” Sounds like a silly question I know. But if you have a sin in your life that you are not willing to give up, you may find it hard to say this part of the prayer with a sincere heart. Oh, sure, we can say it, but do we mean it? If we’re going to pray “Lead us not into temptation,” we have to make the conscious choice to not willfully walk towards it either.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
