Reality Check – 1 Samuel 16:1

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

1 Samuel 16:1
YHWH said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

Well, here’s the beginning steps of David rising to be King over Israel. King David. The second King of Israel. The one that so many identifies to Israel. Yet, the beginning steps of David’s journey to the kingship actually starts with the rejection of Saul.

Just like when watching a movie or reading a book, we try to identify ourself with the individual that wins. We try to identify with the person who always comes out on top of the battle. How often do we go in and actually try on purpose to identify with the “bad guy”?

The point is this, instead of trying to identify ourselves with David all the time, maybe we need to do a reality check to make sure our lives aren’t actually more like Saul’s, the one who ended up being rejected.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
