Basic Principles? – Colossians 2:8

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

When my family and I started pursuing the Torah we were told by several people that we were now following hollow and deceptive philosophy. They even quoted this very verse to us. They told us that the Torah was based on human tradition and the basic principles of this world.

Now, I ask you to please think about this for a second. Can we, or even should we, really call the instructions that YHWH handed to Moses on stone tablets “hollow and deceptive philosophy?” Does that even make sense? Do we really want to say that which came from the Hand of the creator of the universe is human tradition? Do we really want to say His instructions are basic principles found in this world?

John 1 tells us that Yeshua is the Word made made flesh. What we call the Torah is what we are calling Yeshua.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
