Jacob The Warrior – Genesis 48:22

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 48:22
And to you, as one who is over your brothers, I give the ridge of land I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.

This is where Jacob is about to die and he is blessing Joseph. However, there is something here that just caught me off guard. Jacob tells Joseph that he is giving him the land of the Amorites that he defeated with his own sword and bow. I had personally never thought of Jacob as a warrior type of guy. In fact, I can’t remember where it is ever recorded that Jacob fought at all. Yet, obviously he did.

Here’s the thing. While it’s obviously not a prominent element of Jacobs life, he could fight and he did. We are not given how often he went to battle so it would be speculation only to wonder about his battles. Yet, in all of this we see in these verses he was very capable of conquering. My question for you is, regardless of what you are known for, are you able to conquer?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
