Familiarity – Luke 4:24-27

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Luke 4:24-27
“I tell you the truth,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed — only Naaman the Syrian.”

Amazing isn’t it? Yeshua shows how the heart of Israel is inclined to doubt those who YHWH sends to them. He even gives them examples with Elijah and Elisha in how people outside of Israel were helped by these two prophets. So what’s the lesson to be learned here? Don’t underestimate what YHWH can do through anybody, even if it’s someone you know. There really is some truth to the old saying goes “Familiarity breeds contempt.”

Use caution. Don’t reject a message someone has just because you know them.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
