Don’t sell your Birthright – Genesis 25:31-3

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 25:31-33
Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.” “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?” But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.

What a sad story. Esau focusing on the temporary so much that he gives up his birthright. You and I can look at this in amazement and even say in a condescending style “How could Esau do such a thing? What was he thinking?”

Yet, how often have we done the same thing? Now, you might be saying “I would never do such a thing.” Yet, how often have you fell to a temptation that offers only temporary pleasure? Is that really that much different? If one persists and continues in that sin, they truly run the risk of giving up their “birthright” in Yeshua.

Before we get so judgmental on Esau, maybe we need to examine our lives just a little closer? Could we be forgetting that his life could be showing us the example of what to avoid? Yet, all the while we mock at him, we could actually be doing the same thing.
