Refined – Psalm 66:10

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Psalm 66:10
For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver. 11 You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. 12 You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.

These verses are both discouraging and encouraging at the same time. Funny, I know, but think about it. They say He tested them and refined them. Being refined sounds good until you really think what the word “refined” means. Think of how gold and silver are refined. They’re heated up so hot that they melt. As the temperature rises all the impurities rise to the top and are then scraped off. Thus, they are refined.

Here we see that their refinement included being put in prison, having burdens put on them, and having people over them. We know that Biblical history is cyclical. So if we don’t purify ourselves, can we expect anything different? Yes, we will be brought to a place of abundance, but the purification comes first. Either by us, or Him.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
