Leadership – Numbers 14:36-37

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Numbers 14:36-37
So the men Moses had sent to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community grumble against him by spreading a bad report about it — these men responsible for spreading the bad report about the land were struck down and died of a plague before YHWH.

This is a section of the story we hear little about. YHWH called these men to account of their actions that influenced the whole community. Let’s not forget these were not just anyone from the community. Numbers 13:3 tells us these men were leaders from the tribes.

These were leaders who saw the Red Sea split open so they could walk on dry ground. They saw all the plagues fall on Egypt at the hand of YHWH. Yet, here they doubted His ability to overcome the inhabitants of the land that He promised them.

They were leaders. And now we can see the words of James a little more clearly.

James 3:1
Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

Being in leadership comes with much responsibility. Don’t take it lightly.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
