Define “Scripture” – 2 Timothy 3:14-15

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

2 Timothy 3:14-15
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Messiah Yeshua.

As I’ve said before, there are two things the New Testament Church didn’t have. A New Testament and a church. Yet here we see the holy scriptures were known to Timothy since he was an infant.

So what “Holy Scriptures” were around when Timothy was just an infant? It is generally accepted that the book of James was the first book written of the New Testament in approximately 49 AD. It is also generally accepted that this book of 2 Timothy was written in approximately 67 AD. That’s only 18 years difference. Do we really believe that it was the New Testament that Paul was saying Timothy had known since infancy? Or would it be better understood that It was the books found in what many call today, the Old Testament?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
