He’s Waiting – Genesis 32:28

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 32:28
Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”

Many refer to this as when YHWH changed Jacobs name. Yet, this is actually a prophecy of what was to come. A prophecy that came to pass in chapter 35:10. Listen to verse 10.

God said to him, “Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.” So he named him Israel.

So what happened between 32:28 and 35:10? Consider 35:4.

Genesis 35:4
So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.

Jacob cleaned house. He removed everything that opposed YHWH in his household. Was this what was needed? Could his name have been changed if verse 4 didn’t happen? What god’s do you have in your life? What is YHWH waiting on you to remove before He can do what He has promised you?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
