Consequences – Genesis 34:1

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Genesis 34:1
Now Dinah, the daughter Leah had borne to Jacob, went out to visit the women of the land.

This is the opening verse to a chapter filled with turmoil. Filled hate, vengeance, blood and deceit. A chapter that could have been completely avoided if verse one didn’t take place. Amazing isn’t it? One wrong choice can create so much trouble in ones life. And not just in their own life but in the lives of all those around them as well.

Dinah went out to visit the women of the land. What kind of women were they? What were they doing? What drew her to them? Maybe the last verse of the chapter explains why she was treated the way she was.

Genesis 34:31
But they replied, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?”

One can’t help but wonder if the women of the land she was visiting were indeed prostitutes? We’ll never really on this side of eternity just who those women were. But we do know this, her leaving her people created a lot of pain for other people.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
