Words – Hosea 14:1-2

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Hosea 14:1
Return, O Israel, to YHWH your God. Your sins have been your downfall! 2 Take words with you and return to YHWH. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.”

This is where Hosea is wrapping up his message to the people. He states quite clearly that it was their sins that was their downfall. Their disobedience. Now notice the beginning of verse 2. It says “Take words with you and return to YHWH.”

The Hebrew word for “words” is “Devarim”. The exact same word we find for “commandments” in Exodus 34:28; Deuteronomy 4:13; and Deuteronomy 10:4. So it’s not saying to just take words with us. It’s saying to take the commands with us. Then it tells us to “return to YHWH.” This is because returning to YHWH starts with returning to His commands. Returning to the “Devarim”.

Where do you stand with YHWH today? Have your sins been your downfall? Do you need to return to His commands?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
