Acts 7:38 – “Living Words” (June 26)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Sunday. June 26th. The 1st day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Acts 7:38.

38 He was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.

Stephen said that Moses passed on “living words”. Living words. What did Moses pass on to them? It was the Law. Now, I don’t know about you, but I was raised to believe that the law was bondage. Yet, here we see that Stephen, a deacon in the first century church, declares the law to be living words.

If Stephen declares the Law to be living words, we have to ask ourselves how we view the law. Do we see it as “living words”? If not, why not? Stephen, a leader in the first century church declares it as such. If a leader in the first century says this, shouldn’t the leadership in the twentieth century be saying the same thing?

We always hear how we should be like the first century believers. Well, shouldn’t it start with what we believe? Since they believed the Law was “living words”, shouldn’t we believe the same? So, do you view the law that Moses passed on to be “Living Words”?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
