Acts 7:1 – “Preach It” (June 24)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday. June 24th. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.
Our verse today is Acts 7:1.

Acts 7:1
Then the high priest asked him, “Are these charges true?”

Interesting isn’t it? They asked him a question that they knew the answer to. They knew the charges weren’t true. They knew the accusations were false. How did Stephen respond? He ignored the question and started preaching. But it wasn’t just any message. In fact, Stephen’s sermon is the longest recorded message in all of the New Testament.

Stephen did what many would call “Preaching to the choir”. At least that’s the way they took it as I’m sure. Yet, as his message progressed, he started showing them a side that they didn’t quite see the same way.

But here is the thing that we need to take note of, Stephen new the scriptures. Not a little here or there. He knew them quite well. It’s in this that he was able to stand up against them and they knew it. Yet, let’s not forget that he did so in kindness as they saw his face was likened unto an angel.

He wasn’t just blabbing off knowledge to show what he knew. So the question for us is “Why do we preach to others? To show ourself right? Or in hopes our hearers will repent? ”

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!

Here's something interesting to consider:
