Acts 6:11 – False Accusations (June 22)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. June 22nd. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Acts 6:11.

Acts 6:11
Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak words of blasphemy against Moses and against God.”

We must take note here that they had to get people to lie about Stephen. What does that tell us? It tells us that Stephen was an upright man. They had nothing against him. Listen to the following verses.

Acts 6:12
So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. 13 They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.”

Let’s stop here for a second. Did you notice that the had to produce false witnesses? Next, did you notice what the false witnesses said? They said “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law.” Since these were false witnesses, what does that tell us? It tells us that Stephen never spoke against the holy place and that he never spoke against the law.

Now listen to verse 14.

14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.

Now personally, I can give some leniency about the temple being destroyed. That was probably a reference to Yeshua’s words. His words they misunderstood when he was talking about His body. But, again, these were false accusers to get Stephen stoned. So they had to pull their trump card. And what was that? Of course, say that Yeshua would change the customs Moses handed down.

Yet again, that was a false accusation. So what does that tell us? It tells the disciples and Stephen continued teaching Moses even after Yeshua’s death.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
