1 Samuel 16:1 – Reality Check (May 4)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. May 4th. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is 1 Samuel 16:1.

1 Samuel 16:1
YHWH said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.”

Well, here’s the beginning steps of David rising to be King over Israel. King David. The second King of Israel. The one that so many identifies to Israel. Yet, the beginning steps of David’s journey to the kingship actually starts with the rejection of Saul.

Just like when watching a movie or reading a book, we try to identify ourselves with the individual that wins. With the person who always comes out on top of the battle they are facing. How often do we go in and actually try on purpose to identify with the “bad guy?”

I mean let’s face it, everyone tries to identify themselves with David, the man after God’s own heart. But can that really be true? Should we all be trying to identify ourselves with David? If this was the case, then it seems that everyone would be in the Fellowship of Philadelphia in Revelation? Wouldn’t that be a fair consideration?

Yet, we know that the Fellowship of Philadelphia is only 1/7th of the Body of Messiah. And that’s only the case if the seven fellowships are the same size.

The point is this, instead of trying to identify with David all the time, maybe we need to do a reality check to make sure we’re not identifying with Saul, the one who ended up being rejected.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
