Luke 8:16 – Light the Room (March 30)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. March 30th. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Luke 8:16.

Luke 8:16
“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.”

These same words are also found just a few chapters later in Luke 11:33. I love these verses. Many associate these with not being ashamed or not hiding our faith. And I can definitely agree to that. However, I think there might be something else for us to consider.

The verse says we put it on a stand so all can see. Do you have an oil lamp? This is “technology” that has been around for a long time. We actually have one on our table for when the power goes out. They truly can light the whole room.

The concern that I have today is that sometimes we like to take this example from Yeshua and modernize it with today’s technology. Modern flash lights are very bright. Especially those designed to cover large areas. Yet, when those lights are pointed in the eyes of those in the room, well, it’s not comfortable. In fact, it can down right hurt.

So, that being said, how are presenting the Light? Are we forcing it on people? Are we shining the light in their eyes? In return just making them them want to reject it? Especially if they have been in the dark. Their eyes are not ready for a super bright light.

Yet, if we do as Yeshua said and place our lamp on a stand, then others will see as the Father draws them to it. When we force things, we just break things. Let the Holy Spirit move on them. So are you letting others see? Or just blinding their eyes?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
