March 16

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. March 16th. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today is Joshua 5:13

Joshua 5:13
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

Here we see Joshua getting ready to begin his march to take over the promised land. He had seen YHWH do much through the hand of Moses and is ready to see YHWH use him. It’s at this time that Joshua sees this man with a drawn sword. Joshua’s question “Are you for us or for our enemies?” shows his heart is ready for battle. Yet, it’s the mans response that let’s Joshua know who he is talking to.

Here is the man’s response to Joshua’s question of which side He was on.

14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of YHWH I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?”

While many will take these verses to debate if this was a pre-incarnate appearance of Yeshua or not, I look at what He said. He wasn’t on either side. Get the picture? It’s US who have to choose. I find it interesting that this is the very message that Joshua gives to the people of Israel before he departs.

Joshua 24:15
But if serving YHWH seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve YHWH.

So the choice is always ours.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
