Vengeance – Romans 12:19

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

I remember watching a movie years ago when I was a youth pastor. It was a great movie, and I
suggested it to most everyone. Especially to those who liked silly comedies. The movie was called “The Princess Bride.” However, the movie had a theme that I never caught at first. It probably wasn’t until the tenth time I saw the movie on VHS that I realized it. The undercurrent theme was vengeance. If you saw the movie, you know the famous line: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Like in that movie, vengeance can have an undercurrent in our lives and we may not even pay attention to it. It can become such a norm in ones subconscious attitudes that we may not realize the damage we are allowing in our lives.

For more on this topic, please see our teaching “The Need for Forgiveness.”

Remember, vengeance is not yours. It belongs to YHWH.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
