A Man’s Honor – Proverbs 20:3

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Proverbs 20:3
It is to a man’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.

“It is to a man’s honor to avoid strife” … The Hebrew word here for strife means “dispute”. So it is to our honor to avoid disputes. Now, there’s nothing wrong with believing something different than someone else. But that doesn’t mean you should just bring the topic up in efforts to debate.

I remember being in a Bible study with a bunch of people. An individual said how a certain verse pointed to his view of the calendar. But the problem was he was determined to convince everyone of his view. For the next 60 minutes he wanted only to debate.

He knew that it would bring dispute in the study, but he brought it anyway. But here’s the point, he may be 100% correct on his view. However, the mere fact that he was looking for a dispute takes honor away from him. He showed himself a fool according to the next part of our verse. “But every fool is quick to quarrel.”

Don’t go looking to prove yourself right. Focus on living right more than being right on a topic.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout today. Until next time, Shalom.
