The Tight Rope – Mark 8:36

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Mark 8:36
What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

Are you forfeiting your soul? Most of us would say “Of course not!” Yet, I can’t help but wonder how seriously we take this thought.

I once saw a picture of a guy who was walking on a tight rope between two buildings. He was at least 20 or 30 stories up. As I sat there and looked at the picture, all I could think was “Why?” What would make someone do such a thing? I mean, the guy didn’t even have a safety net. So, why? What was the purpose? Just to get an applause that would last about 60 seconds? Just to get his picture in the papers that would be “Yesterdays’ news” tomorrow? Maybe it was to get his name in the history books for such a feat. Yet, even then, who’s going to remember? How hard do we work for the temporary things in life? And more than that, are we neglecting the eternal for such things? Don’t walk the tight rope. Walk the straight path.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
