March 7

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Monday. March 7th. The 2nd day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Micah 6:8

Mic. 6:8
He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does YHWH require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

I have a lot “favorite verses” and this is one of them. Three basic elements to life. Justice, Mercy (or loving kindness) and humility.

Years ago, I was REALLY into Contemporary Christian Music. One of my favorite artists, among many, was Steven Curtis Chapman. He had a song he sang titled “The Walk.” The CD was “Signs of Life.” The song was centered on this very verse. The chorus went…

You can run with the big dogs
You can fly with the eagles
You can jump through all the hoops
And climb the ladder to the top
But when it all comes down
You know it all comes down to this
Do justly, love mercy
Walk humbly with your God

I can actually still hear the tune in my head today. It really is a good song.

The point here though is that this verse gives us three basic elements that are to be in our life. Justice, Mercy (or loving kindness) and humility. No matter how important you think you may be, your not so big that you don’t have to act justly to others. No matter how many times some one offends you, you are still suppose to give mercy as you want it given to you. And no matter how many times the Father may have used you, humility is the mark of a true servant.

If you get the chance, you may want to check the song out sometime. But whatever you do, don’t forget this verse. Do justly, love mercy. Walk humbly with your God.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
