Don’t Be Owned – Matthew 6:19-21

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Matthew 6:19
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I believe the most powerful of these verses is the last one. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” You see, there is nothing wrong with having possessions. You just can’t let those possessions have you. This begs the question “Is there anything we have in our life that has us?” Of course our first “knee jerk” reaction is “That’s silly. None of my possessions ‘has’ me.”

However, if that is the case, can you do without your “things”? Silly question right? Or is it? You see, sometimes we don’t realize how attached we are to things in our life until they’re gone. It’s then when we realize how just how much those things have us.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
