Act of God – Joel 2:12-13

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Joel 2:12-13
“Even now,” declares YHWH, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to YHWH your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

How many times have we seen when something really bad happens it gets labeled as an “Act of God?” Interesting isn’t it? Why is it that YHWH gets pegged as a mean old man with a lightning rod just waiting for us to mess up? The problem is, many have this mentality of Him. When actually, that’s not the whole story.

YHWH truly is loving and compassionate. He simply wants true change from our hearts. If we truly repent from our heart, He will truly relent from sending calamity our way. So, while “acts of God” can be calamity that He sends, may we never forget that forgiveness is an act of God too. The point is, we get to choose which act we receive. Calamity or forgiveness.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!
