Plethora – 1 Peter 4:8

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Just in case you didn’t get it the first time, let me read that one more time. “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” Do you realize why this is said? Because there are going to be a multitude of sins committed against us. Therefore we need to love each other deeply.
The Greek word used for “multitude” is “Plethos.” It’s where we get the word “Plethora” from. Meaning a large or excessive amount of something. Peter is saying that we’re going to have a plethora of sins committed against us and we need to be prepared to overcome those sins with love. If we don’t have love established in our hearts, this will be a battle far greater than we can imagine.
How does Peter know we will have a plethora of sins against us? Because none of us are perfect. If we plan on overcoming the enemy, we have to plan on forgiving each other.
