Dirty Work – 1 Samuel 18:17

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

1 Samuel 18:17
Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage; only serve me bravely and fight the battles of YHWH.” For Saul said to himself, “I will not raise a hand against him. Let the Philistines do that!”

Motive. What’s your motive when doing something. We see that Saul gave his daughter to David to get him to fight in his army. To everyone around observing, that most likely looked like an admirable thing. The King offered his daughter in marriage to David. But we see that Saul had an ulterior motive in this. One that no one else saw. It was the hopes that David would be killed by the enemy in war. Creating a circumstance to do his dirty work, all the while keeping his appearance to all others as the “good king” who reached out to David.

Well, we all know how that turned out for Saul. Yet, with as often as we have read about Saul and David, have we let it change our motives?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, shalom!

Here's something interesting to consider:
