Romans 12:17 – Evil for Evil (August 9)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Tuesday. August 9th. The third day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Romans 12:17.

Romans 12:17
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil.” If there is a verse that is hard to fight our flesh on, I have to think that this is it. It seems to only be human nature to hurt those who hurt you. Right? If someone does something wrong to you, then it seems purely justified to hurt them back.

But we know that is not the way of the believer. Though we do all we can to convince ourselves that getting even is OK, we know deep down inside it’s not. However, if we dwell on it long enough, we will deceive ourselves and will actually seek our self justification at most any cost. Even though we know that two wrongs don’t make a right, for some reason, it just feels right.

Yet, there’s the problem. We aren’t suppose to live by our feelings. Whose example are we following in getting even with someone? Knowing that our example in life is Yeshua, do we ever read where He paid someone evil for evil?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
