John 13:12-15 – The Example (May 29)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Sunday. May 29th. The 1st day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today is John 13:12-15.

John 13:12
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

This past week we talked a lot about love and how we are to love one another. And here we see Yeshua, the Messiah Himself, washing the feet of His disciples. Yet, then He said that He had set us an example and that we should do the same.

I know that we have all heard and read these verses before. However, have we truly let His words sink in to our hearts though? Have we truly thought just how He set the example? We aren’t talking about just serving. We are talking about the ultimate in humbling oneself to wash the feet of others.

I know there are some who have been a part of foot washing services before and that it really touched their heart. Yet, even then, I struggle to think that we can really grasp the depth of what Yeshua was really portraying to His disciples. He wanted them to be servants to one another at all times. Not just here or there, but at all times.

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
