Matthew 4:7 – Testing 1,2,3 (May 11)

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Wednesday. May 11th. The 4th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verse today is Matthew 4:7.

Matthew 4:7
Yeshua answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'”

Now, to make the content clear, this is Yeshua’s response to Satan right after he took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. Satan said to Him “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'”

Here we Satan taking scripture and twisting it. Thus, Yeshua’s response “It is also written…” Now, I don’t know about you, but when I read Yeshua’s quote “Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” I’m reminded of a verse that seems to say the exact opposite. It’s found in Malachi 3:10.

It talks about the giving of tithes. While I do not believe tithing is possible today, please see my teaching on tithes for that, we cannot ignore what the verse says still. It says…

Malachi 3:10
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says YHWH Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

So what do we do with that? Is it a contradiction? Hardly. YHWH told us to test Him in “This.” That which brings blessings by way of our obedience. That’s a big difference. Testing Him by our Obedience or testing Him in other motives.

So, the question is, how are you testing Him?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
