Corrosive – Ephesians 4:29

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

The Greek word for “unwholesome” can also be translated as “corrupt.” When I think of that word, for some reason I think of the word “corrosive.” Something corrosive eats away at whatever it’s on. Sometimes it’s visible and sometimes it’s not.

Unwholesome talk can do just that. It can tear people down little by little. Sometimes you see the effect and other times you don’t. One might say, “Well, those who I’m talking about don’t even know I’m talking about them.” That may be the case. However, what could those words be doing to those who are hearing you talk about another person? Are we to believe our words of hate, bitterness, envy, jealousy, anger, scorn or disrespect are not going to be corrosive to those who hear them coming from our mouths? Even if they are not directed at them, they can still be corrosive to those who are listening.

As the old saying goes… “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.”

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
