A True Friend – Proverbs 27:9

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Proverbs 27:9
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one’s friend springs from his earnest counsel.

Have you ever walked into a candle store before? The second the fragrance of the store hits your nose you just breath in and say “Wow. This place is awesome.” If the store is at an inside mall, you don’t even have to go inside the store. You can just walk by the doorway and you’ll smell it.

When a friend tells you in love what you need to hear and not what you want to hear, it’s like breathing in that fresh fragrance. Why? Because you know that they are not just telling you something to make you feel good. It’s information you know you need and therefore you value it.

The word for “earnest” in the Hebrew is nefesh. A word that is often translated as “soul” or the very “being” of someone or something. So it’s the counsel from the heart of the individual with no selfish motives included. Something for you and only you and for your true benefit.

Now, just as much as we all want and need a friend like that, the question is are we that friend to others?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
