Motives – Proverbs 16:2

Welcome to Scriptures for Life with TorahFamily.org. Taking time to focus on the Father’s way.

Proverbs 16:2
All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by YHWH.

Everything we do seems innocent to us. We see everything through our own perspective, thus, everything we do seems right or at the very least, justified.

Yet, this verse says the motives are weighed by YHWH. The Hebrew word for motives here is actually “ruchot.” Meaning the spirit. So the spirit of the man is weighed by YHWH. A man’s spirit is the heart by which we make our decisions.

While we may think we are innocent on the outside, deep inside we know what is wrong or right. How often have we suppressed what our inner convictions are telling us? Most always it’s the Holy Spirit that is convicting us in the matter. So when the Holy Spirit is convicting you on something, what do you do? If we don’t respond accordingly to His convictions, our heart may only grow harder and our ears more dull to hearing what He has for us the next time. In turn, making our ways seem right in our own eyes all the more.

Though your ways may seem right to you, what’s the Spirit saying to you?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until next time, Shalom.
