Jan. 22

Hello and thanks for joining in on to today’s daily devotion. Today is Friday January 22nd. The 6th day of the Hebraic week.

Our verses today is 1 Kings 18: 36,37

1 Kings 18:36
At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “O YHWH, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. 37 Answer me, O YHWH, answer me, so these people will know that you, O YHWH, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

This is the story where we see Elijah taking on the 450 Baal prophets. Truly an awesome event given to us in the scriptures. But there is something that I believe is all too often over looked. And that is the motive in Elijah.

First, we see in verse 36 that he was simply acting in obedience. But it’s verse 37 that I believe needs more attention. It’s where he says …

“Answer me, O YHWH, answer me, so these people will know that you, O YHWH, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

He wasn’t looking to be proven right. He wasn’t looking to be set up on a pedestal. He wanted everyone to know that it was YHWH who was God and that it was HIM who was turning their hearts back. Elijah wanted all attention off of himself and on YHWH.

What’s your focus in life? Is it to be right? Or is it that YHWH is turning the hearts of the people back to Him?

Let this be a focus in your time of meditation throughout the day. Until tomorrow, shalom!
